ENGLISH 3 - COURSE DESCRIPTION

The school year at Frontier is divided into three trimesters and five Intensive Curriculum Blocks (ICBs).  Following are short descriptions of what is offered in each trimester or ICB course.  A syllabus discussing each course in detail is available under the tab to the left labeled "Syllabi by Grading Session" or by clicking on the link at the end of each description.

TRIMESTER 1 - FALL
The fall trimester (approximately 27 days long) will be devoted to learning about THEME in stories (both fiction and non-fiction) and poems.  During the course of reading a poem, short story and essay, we will also learn to recognize and use at least eight separate literary devices tools writers use to achieve a specific effect.  We will also learn how to effectively express our opinion in a three paragraph persuasive essay and work on our vocabulary and grammar. TRIMESTER 2 - WINTER
The winter trimester (approximately 11 weeks long) will be devoted to reading short stories and (egad!) a long form work - Novel or Non-fiction.  We will learn to recognize and use additional literary tools writers use to achieve a specific effect.  We will also continue to sharpen our grammar skills and enhance our vocabulary.  English 3 - Winter Trimester Syllabus - E
