ELAC

One responsibility of the Horizons Office is informing parents of English learners about La Serna HS events and issues; parent rights; and how to be a participant in their students education. This group of parents is known as the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). ELAC meets approximately every four weeks from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Meeting topics vary from year to year and always include time to announce upcoming activities/events as well as time for questions.

The parents who attend the English Learner Advisory Committee meetings will become active participants in the Whittier Union High School District School System. As parents become more familiar with La Serna High School they will be empowered to become active participants in their children's education. They will learn about the discipline plan, practice effective ways of communicating with school personnel, be informed of how school funds are spent, become familiar with graduation and college requirements, be provided with information and parenting tips to assist them with their developing adolescent, and be introduced to technology.
