La Serna High School, located in a scenic residential area in Whittier known as Friendly Hills, has been serving students and their families since 1961. The current enrollment of 2850 includes students who live in East Whittier, La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Santa Fe Springs, and some unincorporated areas of southeast Los Angeles County. La Serna was named a California Distinguished School in 1990, 1996, 2003, and 2009. Our current API score is 839 which is a 18 point increase from 2010. La Serna is the first high school in the area to break 800 and more importantly had the greatest growth of all the schools in our area over the past two years. Our 2010 and 2011 scores have earned us a statewide ranking of 9 out of 10 and a similar schools ranking of 10 out of 10.
The strength of the La Serna High School Community has always been built on the foundation of relationships that are developed amongst staff, students and parents. With this as a backdrop a new vision was created for the school in the summer of 2005 that summarizes the relationships that exist on the campus.

The school is supported by outstanding parent involvement. The two most significant parent organizations include the PTSA, which serves as a student advocacy group on campus and assists with providing educational opportunities for parents and students, and the Friends of La Serna, which is the main parental fundraising organization. The Friends provide additional funding to assist in covering the cost of curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular and athletic ventures on our campus.
