Vacancy Trustee Area 5

The Whittier Union High School District (WUHSD) is accepting applications from community members for a vacancy in Trustee Area Five (5) to fill a vacant seat on the Board of Trustees. Trustee Area 5 includes portions of the following communities:  South Whittier, Santa Fe Springs, and Norwalk.  All candidates must reside in Trustee Area 5.  The appointed candidate will serve on the Board of Trustees through November 2026, when the term expires.
 
The application window opens on December 15 and closes at 4:00 p.m. on January 5, 2026.  A hard copy of the application, along with proof of residency in Trustee Area 5 will be accepted on the following dates and times:
•    December 15-19, 2025 – 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
•    December 22, 2025 – 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
•    December 23, 2025 – 8:00 a.m. until 12 Noon
•    December 29, 2025 - 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
•    December 30, 2025 – 8:00 a.m. until 12 Noon
•    January 2, 2026 - 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m.
•    January 5, 2026 - 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
 
To be eligible to apply, the following criteria must be met:
•    18 years old or older
•    A citizen of California
•    A resident of Trustee Area 5
•    A registered voter
•    Not disqualified by the Constitution or laws of the state from holding a civil office (felony convictions, etc.)
 
Only one of the following items (original) is needed to verify residency in Trustee Area 5:
•    Driver’s license / State ID  or,
•    Utility bill  or, 
•    Voter registration  or,
•    Pay stub  or,
•    Property tax records.
 
The Board will review all applications the week of January 5, 2026.  Eligible applicants will be contacted for individual interviews that will take place at a Special Board Meeting on Saturday, January 17, 2026, during the open session.
