Sierra Vista Creative Writing Class Inspires Students

Sierra Vista High School’s popular creating writing class – offered in the spring to sophomores, juniors and seniors – enables students to mine their rich personal memories and transform them into powerful stories and poems.

They are exposed to several genres of writing, such as journaling, poetry, personal essays and short stories.

The class emphasizes the creative process and exploration through writing activities.

Students engage in collaborative activities in which they have the opportunity to share and receive feedback about their writing from their peers. T

he culminating project of the class is publication of the Creative Writing Anthology.

Students submit ideas for the cover design, which is then voted on. The last day of class is a poetry reading and party with the staff and parents invited to listen to students read their works.
