A Message from Whittier Union

Dear Whittier Union Community,

At Whittier Union High School District, the safety, well-being, and sense of belonging of every student are our highest priorities. We are deeply committed to creating school communities where all students feel welcomed, respected, and supported.

Whittier Union is aware of concerns involving a staff member who was heard expressing support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) outside of work hours. We understand this is upsetting or concerning for members of our community, and we want to assure you that we take this matter seriously.

Whittier Union does not condone any behavior — verbal or otherwise — that puts a student’s safety or comfort at risk. We are conducting a thorough review in accordance with District policies. As this is a personnel matter, we are limited in the information we can share, but please know that we are acting with care and urgency.

Our campuses remain safe, welcoming spaces where students are encouraged to learn, grow, and thrive. If any student is feeling uncomfortable or in need of additional support in light of this situation, we encourage you to reach out to your school site for access to our mental health and wellness resources.

We thank our families for your trust and support as we continue working together to uphold the inclusive and supportive values of Whittier Union.

Thank you,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
Superintendent
