Superintendent's Message

July 2022

Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,Dr. Monica Oviedo

We hope that you have had an enjoyable summer, filled with relaxation, fun and time spent with friends and family. This summer break has gone by quickly and the first day of school is right around the corner. We are thrilled to welcome our students back to campus for the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 17 to kick off the 2022-23 school year.

We are excited to announce that we will be holding our annual Freshmen First Day on Tuesday, Aug. 16. This event aims to ease the transition into high school for students and encourages them to build connections with each other to help ensure they can have the best and most impactful high school experience. Freshmen First Day includes activities such as meet-and-greets with teachers, walkthroughs of class schedules and the campus, games and student performances to help incoming freshmen become more acclimated with their new schools.

We are also delighted to share that eight of our Whittier Union High School District teachers have been awarded $25,000 grants by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards for their commitment to maintaining high teaching standards for underrepresented students at high-priority schools. I would like to personally congratulate these teachers for achieving such a great honor, representing our District and mission and shining a light on the truly incredible educators at Whittier Union.

Thank you to the community for your continuous support and commitment to doing Whatever It Takes to ensure our District and students continue to “Achieve and Maintain Excellence.” I look forward to seeing you all soon.
