Superintendent's Message

March 2026

Dear Whittier Union High School District Community,Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo

March has been a month filled with energy, achievement, and meaningful moments across Whittier Union. As we move further into the spring semester, our students and staff continue to inspire us with their dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence. From leadership conferences and staff recognitions to campus events that welcome our future students, March has showcased the very best of our Whittier Union community.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Whittier Union was proud to support student participation in the annual Women’s History Conference, hosted in partnership with Río Hondo College and Soroptimist International of Whittier. This treasured District tradition provides our female students with a powerful day of leadership development, interactive workshops, and mentorship from inspiring women leaders in our community. Events like this empower our students to build confidence, explore future opportunities, and recognize the important role they play in shaping tomorrow’s world.

March also provided an opportunity to celebrate the incredible work of our staff, whose dedication continues to uplift and support our students every day. We extend a special congratulations to Pioneer High School Principal Mary Chapman, who was recognized as the ACSA Region 15 Secondary Principal of the Year, and Whittier Union Adult School (WUAS) Assistant Principal Juan Anzaldo, who received the ACSA Region 15 Adult Education Administrator of the Year award. Their leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment to student success reflect the excellence that defines Whittier Union, and we are proud to have them as part of our District family.

Spring is now fully underway, and schools across the District are entering celebration season while also welcoming the next generation of students to our campuses. Our annual Frosh Night was a tremendous success, bringing together incoming students and their families for an evening of performances, information, and connection. Thank you to our staff, student leaders, and volunteers who helped create a warm and exciting introduction to high school life for the Class of 2030.

The months ahead promise even more achievements and festivities as our students continue to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Together, we remain committed to supporting every learner and creating opportunities that empower success.

Sincerely,
Dr. Monica Oviedo
Superintendent
